Mary’s Hide and Sleep offers you this guide to understanding futons and how to buy one:

How does a Desk bed work?

The Desk Bed is a multifunctional unit that provides a spacious work area by day and doubles as a comfortable bed by night. With the Desk Bed, there is no need to clean off the workspace when you’re ready to sleep. Your desktop items stay in place and the bed folds down on top of it with a clearance of 18 inches or so. When you are ready to work, fold the bed up and the desk rises to seating height.

How is a Platform Bed different from a regular bed?

A platform bed can save owners money because they don’t need to spend money on a box spring. These savings can be used towards the purchase of a higher quality mattress. Any type of mattress can be used on a platform bed, but they are perfect for memory foam mattresses. They provide the flat solid surface that memory foam requires. Slats used for supporting the mattress provide good air circulation and reduce the chances of mold and mildew.

What is a sectional sofa?

This kind of sofa lives up to its name for being adaptable and has a great quality. Besides, it consists of many sections that you can arrange and rearrange them at your will. Whether you want it big or small, it all depends on the size of your living room and it’s available in L-shape or U-shape.

How is a Daybed different from a Futon?

A daybed looks similar to a couch. It is bordered on three sides with walls or railings, so thick cushions or extra accent pillows are typically needed along the frame by day for comfortable seating. These pieces are much deeper than standard sofas because they are sized to fit a twin mattress. Numerous styles are available, including models with built-in bookcases, trundles, or storage space.

Futons have adjustable frames that can be positioned in an L-shape like a couch or flat like a bed. They often come with a full-size, foldable mattress filled with foam or other materials. Perfect for small apartments and college dorms, futons are useful for guests or extra seating. These pieces are thin, streamlined, and easy to move.

What is Futon?

A futon is commonly used to describe an adjustable piece of furniture that can be positioned upright like a couch or flattened out to create a sleeping space. This versatile piece of furniture usually consists of an adjustable frame, a mattress, and a mattress cover. Frames are made from wood or metal, and mattresses may be stuffed with cotton, wool, or foam. Futon covers are typically made from soft fabric and designed to look more decorative. The term futon technically applies to a traditional Japanese bed, which consists of a padded mattress and quilts. The bed is placed on the floor and rolled up and stored after use. In essence, the term futon describes a space-saving bed.

What's the difference between a Natural and Synthetic Latex Mattress?

The supportive nature of latex and its ability to relieve pressure point discomfort are two significant benefits to choosing a latex mattress.

The natural latex material we carry is called Talalay. Natural latex is made from rubber tree sap that is whipped into liquid foam in a centrifuge, poured into molds or continuously onto a belt tray and steam baked. The highest-quality natural latex foam contains at least 95% pure rubber. Some natural latex producers have qualified for organic certification. Natural latex is dust mite, mildew, and mold resistant. Dust mites are unable to live in a natural rubber mattress.

Synthetic latex is a less expensive alternative and is made of petroleum-based oils and chemical additives. Some blends include a small amount of rubber. Chemicals typically added include formaldehyde and flame retardants.

What is a Memory Foam mattres?

Memory foam is a type of polyurethane foam with added chemicals. Memory foam changes its shape due to a chemical reaction triggered by trapped body heat. Proprietary formulas for memory foam vary, but the action is generally the same. Heat trapped beneath the sleeper causes the foam to conform to body shape.

What is a Murphy Bed?

A Murphy bed (in North America), also called a wall bed, pull down bed, or fold-down bed, is a bed that is hinged at one end to store vertically against the wall, or inside a closet or cabinet.

Do you really think it’s better to buy online?

  • internet deals aren’t accurate
  • products are often damaged during shipping and consumer has to deal with the freight company for claim
  • if parts are missing, consumer may pay a high price for the parts
  • often parts are defective
  • some online companies are not even dealers
  • sometimes the product is never delivered and customer can’t get their money back
  • keep in mind, store price-checking hurts the retailer
  • online dealers often don’t have products in stock producing long wait times
  • warranty issues are often the consumer’s responsibility and need to be negotiated
  • sometimes prices are lower in the store
  • you’ll still owe sales tax if you’re in California and the product is shipped to California

Buyer beware! Saving money with low-ball dealers may end up making the buying decision a huge headache!
